« Union
makes strength » : building a peasant
organization in
rural Haiti / [World Neighbors]. - Oklhoma city : World
Neighbors,

NOTE
DE L'ÉDITEUR : This report details the growth of the grassroots
peasant association OPD-8, supported by World Neighbors - Haiti. The
program and resulting organization were intentionally designed to
encourage broad-based participation and democratic decision-making, and
to test the theory that strong local organizations are essential to the
effectiveness and sustainability of any development program.
This case study shares :
- methods used to
improve members' overall well-being by providing tangible benefits in
the areas of sustainable agricuture and food production, income and
asset building, and comunity and reproductive health.
- valuable lessons
in how to help marginalized people begin to develop the skills they
need to participate in decision-making processes through their
involvement in a democratically run local organization.
